Academic Staff Council of the UHH (without UKE) - WIPR

The Academic Staff Council of Universität Hamburg (without UKE) - WIPR - represents the interests of the academic staff who are active in teaching and/or research. Its rights concerning collective matters and individual cases are enshrined in the ‘Hamburgisches Personalvertretungsgesetz’ (Personnel Representation Act, HmbPersVG). Its members are elected every four years and exercise the statutory right to oversight with respect to hiring procedures, limited and permanent contract renewals, and dismissals, among other issues. The WIPR can be contacted by any academic staff member who wishes to address issues concerning working conditions, the working environment, and staff welfare or wellbeing.

Preamble to the Rules of Procedure of the Academic Staff Council (WiPR)

"The Academic Staff Council is responsible for appropriately representing the interests of academic staff at Universität Hamburg. In accordance with its legal mandate, it must both ensure labor law provisions are observed as well as maintain peaceful operations. It fosters transparency and participation. In achieving these goals, the Academic Staff Council works together as a whole. Its actions are always governed by the principles of respectful interaction and trusting collaboration. Its decisions are made democratically and based on mutual appreciation."

The WIPR meets weekly. The meetings take place on Tuesdays from 12:30 pm. In so far as possible, applications received by the office up to two hours before the start of the meeting will be considered.

The Academic Staff Council - WIPR - promotes equality and disability inclusion in the workplace, and engages in all occupational health and safety issues in the interests of the academic staff at Universität Hamburg.

A note on confidentiality and secrecy: As persons who perform or have performed duties or have exercised powers in accordance with the ‘Hamburgisches Personalvertretungsgesetz’ (Personnel Representation Act, HmbPersVG), WIPR members are bound at all times to confidentiality and secrecy in regard to the matters and facts that come to their attention in the course of their duties.

The Academic Staff Council was newly elected in May 2023.
